Date Loaf Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. evaporated milk
    2 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. margarine
    1 lb. dates, pitted and chopped
    1 lb. pecans, chopped (3 1/2 to 4 c.)
    6 Tbsp. powdered sugar
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
Preparation
    Slowly bring
    milk, sugar and butter to a boil, and boil until a
    ball
    forms
    when
    dropped into cold water; do not let scorch. Remove
    from
    heat and stir in chopped dates and nuts. Beat with a
    spoon
    until
    it
    is too hard to move.
    Pour onto cheesecloth or
    cotton dish towel which has been sprinkled with powdered sugar and
    a little cornstarch.
    Roll firmly in towel and when completely cooled, unroll and cut into slices.
