Peppermint Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening (1/2 butter or margarine)
    1 c. powdered sugar, sifted
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. red food coloring
    1/2 c. crushed peppermint candy
    1/2 c. granulated sugar
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 375\u00b0.
    Cream shortening, sugar, egg and flavorings.
    Mix in flour and salt.
    Divide dough in half.
    Blend food coloring into one portion.
    Roll 1 teaspoon each of colored and plain dough into two 4-inch strips.
    Twist the two strips together and curve top to form a cane.
    Bake about 9 minutes. While warm, sprinkle cookies with combination of candy and sugar.
