Apple Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 slices white bread
    butter
    sugar
    1/2 pt. milk
    1 egg
    ground cinnamon
    4 cooking apples
Preparation
    Butter bread, both sides, and remove crusts.
    Then line bottom and sides of 1 1/2-pint ovenproof dish.
    Peel, core and thinly slice apples.
    Put layer of apples sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, then bread sprinkled with sugar, then apples all the way to the top, ending with bread.
    Sprinkle with sugar.
    Beat the egg in the milk until frothy and pour over the bread and fruit.
    Bake in slow oven until apples are tender and bread nicely browned, about 2 hours.
    Serve topped with fruit or ice cream.
    Serves 4 people.
    Set oven to 325\u00b0.
