Strawberry Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. fresh strawberries, divided use
    1 c. sugar, divided use
    1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. water, divided use
    3 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/8 tsp. salt
    few drops red food coloring
    1 (9-inch) baked pie shell, cooled
    whipped cream (for topping)
Preparation
    Combine 1 cup of the strawberries, 3/4 cup of the sugar and 1 cup of water in a saucepan.
    Bring to a boil and cook 5 minutes on medium heat.
    Remove from heat and mash strawberry mixture along with remaining 1/4 cup of sugar and the salt.
    Return to heat and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
    Add food coloring and stir.
    Cool.
    Slice remaining strawberries and place in the cooled pie shell.
    Pour cooled strawberry filling over the fresh berries. Refrigerate until serving time, the top with whipped cream.
