Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. thinly sliced onions
    2 qt. (about 12 medium) thinly sliced cucumbers (with skin)
    1/8 c. salt
    4 c. vinegar (cider)
    3 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1/4 tsp. dill
    1/4 tsp. allspice
    1/2 tsp. turmeric
    ice cubes
    1/4 tsp. white pepper
Preparation
    Gently stir salt into sliced cucumbers.
    Cover with ice.
    Let stand 3 hours.
    Drain.
    Add onions.
    Combine remaining ingredients.
    Boil 10 minutes.
    Strain.
    Add onions and cucumbers and bring to boil.
    Boil for 10 minutes.
    Jar and seal.
    Makes 3 pints.
