Upside-Down Pear Gingerbread Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. butter
    1/2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
    2 Tbsp. finely chopped maraschino cherries
    2 c. thinly sliced fresh pears
    orange or lemon juice
    1 pkg. gingerbread mix
    vanilla ice cream
Preparation
    Melt butter in an 8-inch square baking dish; stir in sugar. Sprinkle cherries over butter and sugar.
    Dip pear slices in juice to prevent darkening.
    Arrange pear slices in rows over cherries; set aside.
