Pineapple Almond Date Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sliced almonds
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. margarine, softened
    1 can crushed pineapple in syrup or juice
    1 Tbsp. grated orange peel
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1 c. chopped dates
Preparation
    Toast 3/4 cup almonds, save the remaining 1/4 cup for topping. Beat sugar and margarine in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in egg until blended.
    Stir in undrained pineapple and orange peel.
    Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and nutmeg in a medium bowl.
    Beat into pineapple mixture until blended.
    Stir in 3/4 cup toasted almonds and dates.
    Pour batter into greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
    Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup untoasted almonds on top.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 55 to 60 minutes.
