Puffy Fried Bread Sopaipillas - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. all-purpose flour
    1 1/4 tsp. salt
    4 tsp. baking powder
    4 Tbsp. sugar
    3 Tbsp. Crisco
    milk (about 1 1/2 c.)
    canola oil for deep frying
Preparation
    Sift flour; measure and sift again with salt, baking powder and sugar.
    Cut in Crisco; add milk to make a soft dough barely firm enough to roll.
    Cover bowl and let stand 30 minutes.
    Then roll out dough on lightly floured surface to about 3/8-inch.
    Cut into diamond shaped pieces or 2-inch square pieces.
    Deep fry in hot oil.
    Turn to get evenly brown.
    Drain on paper towel.
    May be served with honey, butter, jelly, etc.
    Makes 3 to 4 dozen pieces.
