Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 sticks unsalted butter
    dash of salt
    1 can condensed sweetened milk
    1 lb. brown sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Use a heavy 3-quart saucepan and a long wooden spoon.
    Melt butter.
    Add sugar, milk and salt.
    Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.
    Bring to a full boil and cook 12 to 15 minutes to firm ball stage.
    Remove from heat and blend in vanilla.
    Pour into a buttered 9 x 9-inch pan.
    Cut into squares when firm.
