Thumbprint Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. shortening (can use butter or margarine)
    1 c. brown sugar, packed firmly
    4 eggs, separated
    2 tsp. vanilla
    4 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    3 c. finely chopped nuts
    confectioners sugar icing
Preparation
    Mix shortening, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla thoroughly. Measure flour by dipping method or sifting.
    Blend together flour and salt; stir in.
    Roll dough into balls, 1 teaspoon per ball. Beat egg whites slightly with fork.
    Dip balls in egg whites. Roll in nuts.
    Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Press your thumbprint in center of cookie to make an indentation. Bake in 350\u00b0 oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until set.
    Cool.
    Fill with confectioners sugar icing, tinted in various colors.
