Cabbage Soup(Eastern Europe) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 or 3 lb. cabbage, shredded
    1 large can crushed tomatoes
    1 small can tomato paste
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    2 large onions, sliced
    3 or 4 McIntosh apples, cut in pieces
    1/4 c. lemon juice
    3 or 4 Tbsp. sugar
    1 whole stick butter (optional)
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients (except lemon juice, sugar and butter) in large soup pot filled with water and cook for 1 hour.
    Then add lemon juice, sugar and butter.
    Cook for another half hour, adding salt, sugar and lemon juice to taste.
    Serve with dollop of sour cream.
