Christmas Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 pkg. (1 lb.) dates
    3/4 lb. (1 1/2 jars) cherries
    1 lb. pecans
    1 c. sugar
    4 eggs, separated
    1 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 jiggers whiskey
Preparation
    Preheat
    oven to 350\u00b0.
    Place pan of water in bottom of oven. Chop
    dates
    and pecans; add cherries (candied cherries or maraschino is preferred).
    Add vanilla and liquid (wine or grape juice can be substituted for whiskey) to fruit and nuts. Stir
    in sugar
    and
    slightly
    beaten egg yolks.
    Stir in dry ingredients and fold in beaten egg whites.
    Batter will appear stiff and be mostly
    fruit
    and nuts.
    Decorate top with nuts and cherries. Bake cake at least 1 hour and 10 minutes.
