Aunt Nora'S Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 2/3 c. four
1/2 tsp. salt
10 oz. dates, diced
1 c. hot water
1 tsp. soda
1 c. sugar
4 Tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. nutmeats, broken into pieces

Preparation

Sift flour, salt and cinnamon together.
Pour hot water over dates; add soda and let cool.
Cream sugar and shortening.
Add egg and vanilla.
Beat.
Add dates.
Mix flour and nuts.
Add to mixture and beat.
I usually double the recipe and it provides enough batter for three oiled loaf pans.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 1/4 hours.
