Cranberry-Pear Relish - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    3 c. fresh cranberries
    2 medium pears, cored and cubed
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. allspice
    4-inch stick cinnamon (decoration)
    bay leaf (optional)
    lemon peel (optional)
Preparation
    Combine sugar plus 1/2 cup water.
    Bring to a boil; dissolve sugar.
    Boil rapidly, uncovered, for 5 minutes.
    Add additional ingredients.
    Cook until cranberries pop (3 to 4 minutes).
    Cover and chill.
