Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter
    1/2 c. granulated sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. ground ginger
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. molasses
    1 c. hot water
Preparation
    Cream the butter and sugar; add the beaten egg.
    Measure and sift the dry ingredients.
    Mix molasses with hot water.
    Add dry ingredients alternately with liquid a little at a time.
    Beat after each addition.
    Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven in a greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan for 45 minutes.
    Serve warm with whipped cream.
    Makes 16 servings.
