Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. cucumbers, thinly sliced
    2 c. sliced onions
    1/2 c. salt
    4 c. sugar
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    4 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Combine cucumbers, onions and salt and let stand for 3 hours. Drain off salt water brine.
    Bring sugar, turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed and vinegar to boiling point.
    Add drained cucumbers and onions.
    Heat thoroughly but do not boil (about 2 minutes). Place in pint jars and seal immediately.
    Makes approximately 7 pints.
