Date Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 sifted c. granulated sugar
    3 eggs
    2 c. chopped dates
    1 c. broken nuts
    1 scant c. bread flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. cloves
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Beat eggs
    until light; add the sugar gradually.
    Blend these ingredients until
    they
    are
    very light.
    Add dates and broken nuts.
    Sift
    before
    measuring
    1
    scant
    cup
    of bread flour. Resift with
    baking
    powder
    and salt.
    (If spices are desired, add
    cloves
    and cinnamon.) Add sifted ingredients to the egg mixture
    with
    vanilla.
    Beat
    batter until it is well blended. Pour into 9 x 13-inch pan lined with buttered paper. Bake at 325\u00b0 about
    25 minutes.\tCool; cut into bars.
    Roll in confectioners sugar.
    Makes 42 (2 1/2 x 1-inch) bars.
