Williamsburg, Virginia Pound Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 sticks butter
    2 c. sugar
    12 egg yolks
    12 egg whites, stiffly beaten
    4 c. flour, sifted twice
    freshly grated nutmeg
    1/2 c. aromatic brandy
Preparation
    Do not use electric mixer.
    This is from the 1600's and hands were used.
    In a large bowl or on tray, soften butter by kneading with hands.
    Gradually work in sugar.
    Add egg yolks, one at a time.
    Add beaten egg whites and flour alternately to creamed mixture.
    Add flavorings (there was no vanilla then).
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until done.
    Can be made in small loaf pans for gifts.
