German Chocolate Squares - cooking recipe

1 (14 oz.) bag caramel candies
2/3 c. evaporated milk, divided
1 box German chocolate cake mix
3/4 c. softened margarine
1 c. chopped pecans
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0. Combine caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk in top of double boiler until melted. Combine cake mix, remaining milk and margarine. Beat with mixer until well combined, then add nuts. Press half mixture into well-greased 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake for 6 minutes; sprinkle chocolate chips over top, then cover with caramel mixture. Crumble remaining cake mixture on top. Bake 17 to 20 minutes. Cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
