Seven Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head iceberg lettuce, shredded
    1 green pepper, diced
    1 c. chopped celery
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 (16 oz.) can garden peas, drained
    2 c. mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. brown sugar (optional)
    1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
    1/2 c. crisp bacon bits
Preparation
    In a large dish, layer ingredients, one at a time, in order given:
    lettuce, green pepper, celery, onion, peas, mayonnaise, brown sugar, cheese and bacon bits.
    Do not toss.
    Cover and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.
    Serve in bowl.
    Will keep 1 or 2 days, if necessary.
