Dutch Krakelingen - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3/4 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
sugar (plain or colored)*
Preparation

In mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla.
Beat until light and fluffy.
Gradually add flour and milk to creamed mixture.
Chill dough for ease in handling.
Divide dough into four equal parts.
Work with one part at a time and refrigerate remaining dough.
Divide each part into 8 pieces.
Roll piece out to an 8-inch strand and twist into a pretzel shape.
Place on greased baking sheet.
Brush cookie with egg and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in preheated 400\u00b0 oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly brown.
Cool on racks.
Yields 32 cookies.
