Chipmunk Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. hot water
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. butter
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 3/4 c. flour
    1 Tbsp. cocoa
    1/2 c. pecans or walnuts
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Grease and flour a Bundt pan.
    In a medium size bowl, sprinkle baking soda over dates, add hot water and set aside.
    Cream the shortening, butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Sift together the flour, salt and cocoa, then add to creamed mixture and combine.
    Put in the date mixture and combine.
    Fold in the nuts and chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake 35 to 40 minutes.
    Let the cake cool before slicing.
