Basic Bread Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. milk
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    3 slices bread or more
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation
    Scald milk and butter in top of double boiler over boiling water.
    Cut bread into 1/2-inch cubes.
    Add to milk.
    Cover and remove from heat.
    Beat eggs until frothy; add sugar and salt. Stir hot milk and bread into egg mixture.
    Add nutmeg and vanilla, mixing well.
    Pour into buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole or baking dish, placed in pan of hot water.
    Bake in moderate oven at 350\u00b0 about 1 hour or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
    Makes 6 servings.
