Connecticut Apple Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 1/3 c. sifted flour
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
4 c. diced pared apples (about 1 1/2 lb.)
1/2 c. shortening (1 stick margarine)
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
2 eggs, lightly beaten
Preparation

Into large bowl of electric mixer, sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and spices.
Add apples, shortening, nuts and eggs.
Beat until well mixed.
Turn into greased and floured round spring-form pan or divide into 2 (9-inch) layer cake pans.
Bake in preheated 325\u00b0 oven for 45 minutes or until cake tests done.
Cool. Remove from pans.
Frost with caramel frosting, if desired.
