Navy Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dried navy beans
    5 c. water
    1 can beef consomme
    1 chicken bouillon cube
    4 potatoes, diced
    2 onions, diced
    4 carrots, diced
    1/4 c. butter
    2 c. diced ham
    3 bay leaves
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Simmer beans, water and consomme for 2 hours.
    Saute onions in butter until tender.
    Add to soup along with remaining ingredients.
    Add more water if needed.
    Simmer until vegetables are tender.
    Ready to serve.
    Makes about 8 servings.
