Candied Yams - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 medium sweet potatoes
    1 c. white sugar
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/3 c. cold water
    1 stick butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    spices as desired
Preparation
    Peel and slice the raw sweet potatoes.
    Melt butter in the bottom of a skillet; add raw sliced sweet potatoes.
    Cover with the sugars.
    Pour over the water and cover.
    Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens and the potatoes are tender.
    Add vanilla just before serving.
