Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 Tbsp. hot water
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. molasses
5 c. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
3 tsp. soda
3 eggs, well beaten
1 c. raisins (optional)
1 c. pecans (optional)
Preparation

Refrigerate for 1 hour or overnight.
Grease hands with margarine.
Roll into 1-inch diameter balls and place on cookie sheet, then flatten to 1/2-inch by pressing down.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 9 to 12 minutes.
Yields 6 dozen cookies.
