Ingredients

3 c. sifted cake flour
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 tsp. allspice
1 c. shortening
2 c. granulated sugar
1 c. blackberry jam
5 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. seedless raisins or dates
Preparation

Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices.
Cream shortening; gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
Add jam. Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
Fold in chopped nuts and raisins.
Pour into three waxed paper-lined 9-inch cake pans.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 or 40 minutes.
Frost with Caramel Frosting.
