Slow-Cooked String Beans And Ham - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 leftover ham bone or bone-in piece ham steak
6 small boiling potatoes, cleaned, peeled and quartered
2 lb. fresh string beans
salt, freshly ground black pepper and hot sauce to taste
pinch of brown sugar (optional)
Preparation

Place the ham bone or piece of ham steak in a heavy saucepan or Dutch oven with water to cover and bring to a boil.
Top and tail the string beans; cut them to 2-inch lengths.
Add the beans to the boiling ham bone along with the remaining ingredients. Lower to a simmer and cook for 1 hour.
