Ingredients

1 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs, beaten
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla
2 pkg. chocolate bits
Preparation

Cream shortening until creamy.
Gradually add the sugars and blend well.
Add eggs.
Sift flour and salt.
Dissolve soda in hot water and add alternately with the flour mixture.
Add vanilla and fold in chocolate bits.
Drop by teaspoonful on an oiled cookie sheet.
Bake in 375\u00b0 oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
Remove and cool. Yield: 8 dozen.
