Classic Strawberry Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1/4 c. sugar
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. butter (margarine)
    1/2 c. milk
    2 eggs, separated
    2 pt. baskets strawberries, cleaned
    1 c. whipping cream, whipped and sweetened
    additional sugar
    dash of nutmeg
Preparation
    Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg into a large bowl.
    Cut in butter to resemble coarse meal.
    Blend milk and egg yolks in a bowl with a fork.
    Stir into flour mixture to make a soft dough.
    Divide dough into six portions.
    Form into balls.
    Pat balls out on a greased baking sheet to 3-inch circles, moistening fingers with egg whites.
    Brush cake with egg whites.
    Sprinkle with sugar.
    Bake at 450\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes until golden.
    Cut in half and top with strawberries and cream.
    Makes 6 servings.
