Ingredients

1 1/2 c. brown sugar
4 Tbsp. cornstarch or flour or half and half
1 1/2 c. water
1/8 tsp. salt
3 egg yolks
2 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Mix brown sugar and 1 1/4 cups water and heat to boiling point.
Combine cornstarch and salt with remaining 1/4 cup water. Stir into sugar mixture.
Cook until thick.
Add egg yolks, butter and vanilla.
Cook about 2 minutes longer.
Cool and pour into a 9-inch baked pie shell.
Use whites of eggs for meringue.
