Mom'S Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. small white beans
    6 c. water
    8 oz. tomato sauce
    1 onion, diced
    2 to 3 large garlic cloves, sliced
    1 Tbsp. brown sugar
    2 Tbsp. molasses
    1 Tbsp. prepared mustard
    1/2 tsp. liquid smoke
Preparation
    Soak beans overnight in about 6 cups water, then add tomato sauce, onion, garlic cloves, brown sugar, molasses, mustard and liquid smoke.
    Add a ham hock or 4 slices of bacon (diced) or a small piece of salt pork.
    Bring all just to a boil, then simmer for 3 to 4 hours or until beans cook.
    Add salt and pepper to taste.
