Smothered Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 medium head green cabbage
    3 carrots, cut diagonally into 1/4-inch slices
    3 Tbsp. bacon drippings or as needed
    1 medium onion, cut into eighths and separated
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 tsp. vinegar
    salt to taste
    freshly ground black pepper to taste
Preparation
    Cut the cabbage into quarters and remove the core.
    Cut each quarter in half and then slice into 3/4-inch slices.
    Wash and spin or pat dry.
