Grandma'S Date Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 oz. dates, chopped
    1 tsp. baking soda
    2 c. hot water
    1/4 c. shortening
    1 c. granulated sugar
    2 beaten eggs
    3 1/2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Lightly grease and flour 2 loaf pans.
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0. Dissolve soda in water.
    Add dates; cool.
    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, flour and date mixture.
    Mix well.
    Pour into pans and bake 45 minutes.
