Johnny Appleseed Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 1/2 c. rolled oats (uncooked)
    2/3 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    1 egg
    2 c. peeled apples, thinly sliced
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. shortening, melted
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Mix and sift flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon.
    Add everything else except for the apples and pecans, then beat mixture until smooth (about 2 minutes).
    Press 1/2 of dough into bottom of a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
    Sprinkle pecans over dough.
    Arrange apple slices over pecans.
    Roll remaining dough between 2 sheets of waxed paper to form a 9-inch square. Remove top sheet; place over filling.
    Remove other sheet.
    Press lightly around edges.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
    When cool, sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
    Cut into bars.
