Plum Sauce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. water
    juice of 1 lemon
    7/8 c. granulated sugar
    1 cinnamon stick
    4 whole cloves
    2 lb. ripe plums
Preparation
    Bring the water, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon and cloves to a boil.
    Add the plums; simmer, stirring constantly, until the skins are shriveled.
    Remove the plums with a slotted spoon.
    Reduce the remaining liquid by half; strain and pour over the fruit.
    Allow to cool.
    Cover and refrigerate.
