Marinated Coleslaw - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large head cabbage
    2 large onions, shredded
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. vinegar
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1/2 tsp. turmeric or few drops yellow food coloring
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    grated carrot or green pepper for color
Preparation
    Mix sugar, vinegar, celery seed, turmeric, salt and pepper and heat until sugar is dissolved.
    Pour over shredded cabbage and onions and mix thoroughly.
    Refrigerate.
    Will keep for 3 to 4 weeks and will stay crisp.
