Ingredients

4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
2 large eggs or 3 medium
1 cup honey
2 Tbsp. orange peel, chopped
1 large egg, beaten with a little water for glazing
1/2 cup almond halves
Coarse sugar crystals
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350. Sift the flour, spices, sugar, and baking powder together, blending well. Add the eggs, honey, and orange peel to make a soft dough. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with cookie cutter and place on lightly greased
or non-stick cookie sheet. Brush each cookie with the egg wash glaze. Place one almond half in the center of each cookie and sprinkle with the coarse sugar. Bake 10-15 minutes or until done. Cool on wire racks.
