Herbed Onion Bisque - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. (3 to 4) onions, peeled*
    1 bunch green onions, trimmed
    1/4 c. butter
    2 medium carrots, pared and sliced
    3/4 c. chopped fresh parsley
    2 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
    2 tsp. dried marjoram leaves
    2-inch strip lemon zest
    1/8 tsp. freshly ground pepper
    1 (10 3/4 oz.) can undiluted chicken broth
    1/4 c. all-purpose flour
    6 c. milk
    1/2 to 1 tsp. salt or to taste
Preparation
    *You may substitute leeks for the onions.
