Sour Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 smoked picnic ham
    1 small bag carrots, sliced
    7 to 8 large potatoes, cubed
    2 cans yellow wax beans
    small amount onion to taste
Preparation
    Boil ham with the onion for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
    Remove ham (do not discard broth).
    Cut into small pieces.
    Add water to broth to suit taste.
    Add carrots and potatoes.
    Cook until done.
    Add beans and cut up ham; heat to boiling and thicken.
    If desired to make \"sour\" add vinegar to taste.
