No Cook Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 gal. cut up cucumbers
    10 lb. sugar
    1 box pickling spice
    white vinegar
    alum
    plain salt
Preparation
    Soak cut up cucumbers for 7 days in a strong, salt water. Wash cucumbers.
    Soak overnight in alum (use alum size of egg). Dissolve alum in water (enough to cover cucumbers).
    Drain.
    Soak for 6 hours in white vinegar.
    Drain off vinegar and throw away. Layer cucumbers in jug with sugar, pickling spices, etc.
    Best served cold.
