Butterscotch Meringue Pie - cooking recipe

3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. granulated sugar
1/3 c. flour
2 c. scalded milk
1/8 tsp. salt
3 egg yolks, beaten
1 1/2 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
9-inch baked pastry shell

Preparation

Combine sugars with flour in a heavy saucepan.
Add hot milk gradually.
Add salt and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, to make a smooth mixture.
Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes, until thickened.
Pour some hot mixture into the egg yolks, stirring constantly.
Pour back into the pan; mix well and cook 3 minutes longer.
Add butter, stirring to melt.
Cool.
Add vanilla and pour into baked crust.
