Plantation Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 3/4 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt (don't cut back on salt)
    1 1/2 c. rolled oats
    1 qt. mincemeat
Preparation
    Blend together the shortening and brown sugar.
    Add the flour, soda and salt.
    Stir in the rolled oats.
    Press 1/2 mixture into a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
    Spread with the mincemeat.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
