Ground-Beef Stew With Cornmeal Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. lean ground meat
    1/2 medium onion, minced
    1/2 bell pepper, minced
    2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
    1 qt. canned tomatoes
    2 c. water
    1 tsp. oregano
    1/2 tsp. cumin
Preparation
    To Make Stew:
    Shape ground beef into 4 large patties. Fry in a heavy Dutch oven until rare or medium done. Drain off excess fat and break patties in the pan into pieces. Add onion, pepper and garlic and saute with meat for a few minutes until limp.
    Add tomatoes, water, oregano and cumin. Simmer, breaking up chunks of tomatoes with the back of a spoon. While the stew cooks, make dumplings.
