Lentil Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. lentils
    10 c. water
    3 to 4 onions, coarsely diced
    4 to 5 cloves
    1 large bay leaf
    2 Tbsp. minced parsley
    salt and pepper
    ham bone or smoked knuckle
Preparation
    Put all in soup kettle, except parsley. Bring to
    a boil, then simmer gently 1 hour.
    Add parsley. Continue at low.
    Simmer until lentils are very soft. Crush some lentils to make thicker soup. Serve with boiled frankfurters, or better still, bratwurst, sliced.
    Pass red wine vinegar to add to soup at table.
