1 c. water
1 pkg. shelled (1 lb.) walnuts
Preparation

Combine sugar and water in a small heavy saucepan.
Heat slowly, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves, then cook rapidly, without stirring, to 300\u00b0 on a candy thermometer, or until a spoonful of syrup poured into a cup of cold water forms hard brittle threads that break when pressed.
