Pecan Patties - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 c. Karo (white)
    2 c. pecans
    2 Tbsp. butter
    2 tsp. vanilla
    red food coloring
Preparation
    Boil the first 3 ingredients to a soft ball stage, using a candy thermometer. Add nuts and let mixture regain heat.
    (It's best to use a heavy pan; this doesn't take long to cook.)
    Remove from heat when it comes back to a full boil
    with nuts in it.
    Add butter, vanilla and red coloring.
    Beat with spoon until mixture looks creamy and thickens.
    Drop or pour into buttered pan or muffin tins.
