Seven Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 c. lettuce
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    6 boiled eggs, sliced
    1/4 tsp. salt
    16 oz. frozen peas, thawed
    1 lb. bacon, diced and fried crisp
    8 oz. can chopped water chestnuts, drained
    1 c. mayonnaise
    2 c. shredded cheese
    1/2 c. sliced green onion
Preparation
    Use half of the lettuce; sprinkle with sugar and pepper.
    Layer eggs on top.
    Sprinkle with salt.
    Layer peas, some lettuce, bacon, more lettuce, then chestnuts.
    Layer rest of lettuce, then cheese. Put mayonnaise on top to edge of bowl.
    Refrigerate for 12 to 14 hours.
    Garnish with onions.
    May toss, if desired.
