German Red-Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head red-cabbage
    1/2 c. vinegar
    1/2 c. water
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 bay leaf
    1 onion, chopped
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. black pepper
    3 to 4 slices bacon
Preparation
    Shred cabbage.
    Mix remaining ingredients (except bacon). Pour over cabbage.
    Add bacon.
    Bring mixture to a boil.
    Simmer, covered, for 45 minutes or until tender.
